L.A. Loves Audrey

Got some cool news for my fellow Angelinos last night! Sorry I waited until today to post it, but my Internet's been wonky and I don't trust posting here via my phone. Anyway, beginning tonight LACMA is hosting an Audrey Hepburn marathon entitled "Audrey Hepburn: Then, Now and Forever." It will run until November 13 and features some Hepburn films rarely shown on the big screen, along with special guest speakers.

Tonight, starting at 7:30 there will be a double feature of Roman Holiday and They All Laughed with an introduction by director Peter Bogdanovich (who directed Audrey in Laughed). Tomorrow, Saturday, is another double feature with Breakfast at Tiffany's and Two For the Road, with an introduction by William Daniels, a co-star from Road. And for the record, I'm really miffed I can't make this one because Two For the Road is maybe my favourite Audrey film and I haven't seen it on the big screen yet.

The double feature nights continue with Sabrina, Love in the Afternoon, Charade, Wait Until Dark, War and Peace (wow!) and My Fair Lady. To see the full list of upcoming screenings, along with film and guest speaker information and screen times, go here.

If you can make it to any of these screenings, please go! I can't tell you how much better it is to see your favourite films on the big screen as they were meant to be seen. You pick up on so much more and having an audience reacting around you just adds a new dimension to the film.

Thanks to Kendal for sharing the info!

"They All Laughed" review, more ideas for Gap-style ads

There's a pretty modest review of They All Laughed here -- I like how the rating is "polite applause" -- but it does give a good background on the movie and make me more curious to finally see it myself.

The next article up is actually pretty random throughout, but about three-quarters of the way down it suddenly talks about Audrey's Gap ads and gives ideas on how to incorporate other classic movies into commercials. Some of it is pretty funny, and since it's still slow news, it seems worth sharing. Scroll down until you find the paragraph that starts with "Several months ago" and go from there. Click here to read it. And lastly, I guess the Taschen book Audrey Hepburn: Taschen Movie Icons is out. I say "I guess" because an exact release date was never given, just November 2006. And the Amazon page says it will ship from 1-3 weeks for the US, maybe the same for Japan. It's still not available in Canada (in French), though, and apparently not available in the UK (though they can now get Audrey Hepburn: The Paramount Years, lucky beasts!), and is already available in France.

FINALLY! New pictures, and the minute-long Gap commercial

Thankfully my home didn't decide to burn down (yet), so I was able to get up 229 pictures for you! This gallery is just miscelaneous pictures from throughout the 1950s, like modeling pictures and candids. You can go straight to the gallery by clicking here, if you'd like.

Next up, someone finally got the 60 second Gap commercial back on You Tube! I'll always kick myself for not downloading it right away. The sound isn't quite synched up at the beginning, but I'll take what I can get right now.

Edit: video has been removed from YouTube

I found a review of the new They All Laughed DVD on USA Today, and they didn't seem to care about it too much. It rated 2 1/2 stars out of four, and no bonus features are listed. (The only ones I know about so far are a commentary with director Peter Bogdanovich and an interview with him and fellow director/fan Wes Anderson.) You can see their review here, about halfway down the page.

And lastly, Ray-Ban is bringing back some classic shades. The Wayfarers, worn in many classic movies like The Blues Brothers and Breakfast at Tiffany's, is going to come back from the dead, for the price of $129. There's apparently going to be a pretty big media blitz to stir up more interest in the shades (and to try and get away with their major price inflation), so maybe we'll see some more use of Audrey in ad campaigns? The most important part of the story is here, but if you want to read more, you'll have to subscribe to The Wall Street Journal. Lame.

P.S. I'm having trouble deciding what I want to give away in the next contest, so maybe you could help us out! There's a poll on the contests page, so vote on what you'd like to see given away next. If you want to suggest something that's not listed, simply click on the "something not listed here" button, then drop us a line saying what you would like to see. We'll take all suggestions seriously, as long as you don't suggest us buying the Breakfast at Tiffany's dress and then giving it away. Don't you dare! :)

More pictures! Penpals! A "They All Laughed" review!

Finally, some more picture galleries. First up is Funny Face, which has 78 pictures right now and more to come.

Next up is Gigi, with 35 to her count so far.

And last up is the UNICEF gallery, with 37 pictures to date. (Please note that there are graphic images in this gallery, among them are starving adults and children and even lifeless bodies. If you feel you cannot handle these images, please skip this gallery.)

There will be more added as I fix them up and deem them suitable for sharing, so keep checking back!

Also, we've been getting a steady amount of submissions to the Audrey Hepburn Community, so if you're looking for fellow Audrey fans to chat with or just looking for a friend, check the community page first. There are people that would love to hear from you. :)

And lastly, I found a review yesterday for the upcoming DVD of They All Laughed. Most of it is actually about the ill-fated Dorothy Stratten, and you unfortunately have to register with the Star-Register's website to view the rest of the article, but the first page seemed to be enough for me.
