Now that it's official, what do you think as Audrey fans? There have been whispers that remaking an Audrey Hepburn film is a sort of curse to an actress's career, since Audrey is held in such high regard by the public and filmmakers. Will this hurt Keira's career, or push her closer to the top of the heap?

My Fair Lady remake is a reality
Bad news for those of you who feel that My Fair Lady was perfect the first time 'round on film: it is definitely being remade, and Keira Knightley is definitely going to play Eliza Doolittle. According to The Telegraph, Keira is officially signed to the movie and has already begun singing lessons (though it's yet to show up on IMDb). Also, it seems that Daniel Day-Lewis will fill Rex Harrison's rather large slippers as Professor Henry Higgins -- at least, if the producers get their wish. He's at the top of their short list of actors for the role, though there's no word on whether he's signed yet.

I'm not too thrilled about the remake, but maybe it will bring more fans to Audrey and it will be interesting to see how they make the film, but I'm not so sure about Keira Knightly-- I'm sorry but she is definitly not one of my favorites and I can't see her as Eliza.
Hard to tell, dangerouse... Let's wait and see.
Any way, Audrey it's the original Eliza so, we will see if the critics analize Keira's performance of Eliza or her ability of copying Audrey's style.
By the way, you can leave comments in my blog in english, no problem at all
No one could fill the shoes of our wonderful Audrey, and all of the remakes of movies have never come close to the classics. Keira Knightley is wonderful, but I just can't see her as the crazy Eliza Doolittle!
Bummer. If it ain't broke--don't remake it.
I honeslty don't know how to feel about this... I'm not much of a Keira Knightley's fan, either...
Actually Julie Andrews was the original Eliza Doolittle. As you know the main reason Audrey was passed over for an Oscar for My Fair Lady, was because of resentment that she and not Julie Andrews played the part. However, I can't see how you can remake a film that really captured the last of the great musicals on film.
Tom
I don't think remakes are bad things, but why Keyra Knightley, among all good actress in the world, why her?? I don't like her at all, and I don't think I'll like her Eliza either!
You have a lovely blog, I'm going to add you in my favourites! Regards from Brazil!
I don't agree with this at all. Even though Keira was the face of Chanel, I still can't figure out why people see her as classic. When I first saw a picture of her, she has that classic "look", but her acting, and what we see of her personality, are far from it. There's no way I could, or will, see Keira for this role.
I'm terribly sad that when an actress gets a nomination for anything, they're bumped to the head of the line for roles and deemed the "it" girl. Did anyone else see Atonement? I thought she mumbled throughout the whole thing and lacked the poise, posture, and grace of the time period. I know it may sound harsh, but when the subject of another actress filling an Audrey character....it's just shoes that can't be filled.
::sigh:: Why ruin a great Audrey movie?
aww i'm kinda bummed because i can't see kierra knightly singing and playing the role of eliza. also why should they have to redo the film, many people still love the original.
I think its daft. why??
It will always be compared and the original is so perfect there seems no point. I remember reading that Scarlett Johansen wants to star in a remake of "the seven year itch"...it all seems so pointless (and arrogant)!!
why remake something that was so 'loverly' the first time? the remake can never stand up to the original.
Ok, fine: Keira is a wonderful actress. I just can't stand the idea of having her replacing Audrey. Keira or anybody else.
How can they remake such a wonderful film. I mean it's still very popular today and the fact it's won so many awards should make it untouchable. It's not as if it was not popular. Remakes are good but there are some films that is just crossing the line, and this to me is one of them. When is it going to be too much, when they remake the sound of music? the wizard of oz? would they dare touch those films, I think not. So why bother with this one. No one can compare to the beauty that was Audrey and no one can fill Rex Harrisons shoes as Higgins.
Bad idea. Very bad idea.
I dont know about this...
although Audrey caught hell for playing Eliza, instead of Julie Andrews. so who knows, maybe Keira wont blow it.
but i really wish they'd just leave the clasics alone.
AH!
NO! It's obviosly- Audrey is the best.I think Audrey don't have a look-in with Keira..pff!
i don't think that keira should be trying to redo my fair lady.. there is absolutely no one who could play a better eliza. my fair lady is my favorite audrey movie.. she fits the role perfectly.
Stop with the Keira- bashing, who ever plays Eliza will not be good enough Audrey fans, so whether Keira plays her or not is immaterial. I think she is a wonderful actress and very beautiful; it is unfair that she should face so much criticism before the film has even been shot.
