By now it's a pretty well-established fact that I love knitting and keep trying to force it on everyone else. Consider it one of my charms. :) While going through my morning Audrey news search, I found a new knitting book called Knitted Icons: 25 Celebrity Doll Patterns
, a crazy cool book that has patterns to make 25 of the most recognizable celebrities, all in vaguely voodoo doll-type form! You can see Audrey Hepburn as the instantly recognizable Holly Golightly to the left for proof that this is, in fact, a really cool book. What's more is that this book is currently featured online at Urban Outfitters (where they are also selling Treasures
and the new Audrey Hepburn: A Life In Pictures
), so they're giving away a free pattern from the book as a bonus. The free pattern in question? Why, the Holly Golightly one, of course!* So if she's the only doll you were interested in making, you lucked out. Now I just have to figure out how to knit with double-pointed needles. Those things are the bane of my existence.*Link goes directly to the pattern, in PDF.
I've been working hard all morning updating the site, and there is now a full review of Anova Books' upcoming Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures. It's a bit more fleshed out than the original blog-only review I did last month, and will be on the website permanently here. As with any Audrey product that's listed on the site, if you own it or have seen it/read it and would like to leave your own review, please do so! Fellow fans would love to hear your point of view.
The Audrey Hepburn community has been updated as well, adding a lot of new fans just waiting to strike up a friendship with fellow Audrey fans from around the world. One new member in particular needs your help! They run the Roman Holiday Locations website and say:
Help me! It's trivial, yes, but would the community like to take a try at identifying some of the remaining unknown film locations for Roman Holiday? The easy ones are done, but you can see some nice screen shots just for fun! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If you think you can help in any way, or if you'd just like to see where Roman Holiday was filmed on location, then please stop by the website and poke around. It'd be a great help to others fans, and may help you if you find yourself in Rome one day with some time to poke around!
Lastly, the links page has been updated to include some new sites that have come up recently. If you're bored or maybe need some help for an Audrey-related report, check there for some great resources and fun ways to waste some time.
You can tell that the holiday season is coming 'round again, because new Audrey products are coming out all at once now. We've already discussed the new, 50th anniversary DVD of Funny Face coming October 2nd, but also to be released that day is a new Audrey Hepburn boxed set (left). This new set features five great films: Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Paris When it Sizzles. Wow!This is in addition to the already much hyped Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures book that I reviewed earlier, and a re-release of the wonderful Audrey Hepburn's Enchanted Tales
, an audio CD where Audrey reads classic fairy tales. The book and CD both come out November 1st in the US. You can either start saving your pennies now, or start putting together that wishlist and conveniently leaving it out in front of all your friends and family. ;)
Anova Books, the publishing house that is releasing the new picture book Audrey Hepburn: A Life In Pictures this November, was kind enough to send me an advance copy of the book to review for this site. I found it waiting on my doorstep for me after a hard day at work, so I took the cat (and the book) outside and gave it a good going-over. It's a beautifully bound hardcover book, and after a short and very sweet introduction by Hubert de Givenchy and a biography on Audrey, the rest is beautiful pictures! Most are full-page photos, and lots of the photos featured in the book are either completely new or else larger reproductions of great pictures I've only been able to find as a tiny, pixelated thumbnail somewhere online. It was so great to sit out in the sun and relax with some quality Audrey eye candy after a draining day, and this book will make a perfect coffee table book for anyone, new or old fan.I'll write a more in-depth review in a little bit and that will be the permanent review on the reviews page, and maybe take some pictures of the book to post here and tease you with. :) Don't forget that the book will be released on November 1st in the US, and you can pre-order here
through Amazon. For those of you in the UK it will come out on September 4th, you lucky dogs, and you can pre-order here
.
Extra special thanks to Rebecca at Anova for being sweet enough to send me a copy of this fantastic book. I'm not overexaggerating when I say that you've made my year, darling!
*Note: I know updates here have been few and far between, and I both apologize for my spottiness and thank everyone for being so patient. I'm working really hard on not working so much (outside of Fab Audrey, that is), so I can devote more time to this and the things I really enjoy in life. Like all things Audrey. :) Thank you again for your patience and I will make it up to all of you!
